Rebecca Ferguson is excellent and has significant screen time. He looks dashing and gives an able and subtle performance. Speaking of performances, Timothée Chalamet handles the lead part with panache. The film ends with the promise of a sequel. But the scenes of him running and finding the Fremen gets a bit longer. In the second half, the film goes on another level as the Duke is attacked suddenly at night.

The tension levels finally go up in the scene where the Atreides group tries to rescue members of a trawler from the sandworm. The sequence of Paul’s training with Gurney (Josh Brolin) and Paul’s intense interaction with Reverend Mother are memorable. It’s only later when Paul has a conversation with his father that things become much clearer. This coupled with the complicated narrative makes DUNE ideal only for a niche audience.ĭUNE’S introduction sequence is a bit confusing. Also, it is devoid of humour or light-hearted moments. The first half moves in a jiffy but one can feel in the second half that the film is going on and on. On the flipside, at 155 minutes, the film is too long. The film is a visual spectacle and it’s one of its big USPs.

More than the action and scale, DUNE is a human drama and the three writers deserve kudos for handling this bit well. The writers try their best to explain to the viewers the setting of the film and also the dynamics shared by various characters.
